Monarch or Rocket Money: the short answer
Pick Monarch if you want the whole picture of your money and you share it with someone. One subscription covers your household, each person gets a login, and you can budget by category or by Monarch's simpler Flex method. Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year after a 7-day trial. There is no free plan.
Pick Rocket Money if you want to start free, or you want help cutting what you pay. On Premium, its team cancels many subscriptions for you, and its negotiators will try to lower bills like phone and internet. From November 2, 2026, that negotiation is only on Premium+, with no success fee. Premium is pay what you think is fair, typically $7 to $14 a month. Premium+ is $15 a month.
Both link your bank accounts, both find your recurring bills and subscriptions, and both remind you before a payment is due. They differ in price, in who they are built for, and in what happens after they find a bill.

What Monarch and Rocket Money cost
Monarch has two plans. Core is $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Plus, added on April 20, 2026, is $199.99 a year and billed yearly only. It adds forecasting, business income tracking, deeper investment analysis and a will through Trust & Will, and for now those features are on desktop web. Both plans start with a 7-day trial that asks for a payment method, and Monarch offers a money-back guarantee after you subscribe.
Rocket Money has three. Free costs nothing. Premium lets you pick your price on a sliding scale, which Rocket Money says typically falls between $7 and $14 a month, and most new members get a 7-day trial. Premium+ is $15 a month plus tax and adds Rowan, an assistant you text, and bill negotiation with no fee. From November 2, 2026, bill negotiation is only on Premium+; before then, a successful negotiation on Free or Premium cost 35% to 60% of the first year's savings.
If you want to pay nothing, Rocket Money is the one with a free plan. If you would pay either way, set Monarch Core at $99.99 a year, which Monarch shows as $8.33 a month, against the Rocket Money Premium price you would pick.
Linking your bank
Monarch connects through three data providers, Plaid, Finicity and MX, and suggests the one that has connected best to your bank in the past. You can switch providers if you need to. It works with accounts in the US and Canada, and you can add manual accounts for anything that will not connect, then update them by hand.
Rocket Money connects through Plaid, which it says works with over 12,000 financial institutions in the United States. Adding transactions by hand, for cash or an account you would rather not link, is a Premium feature.
How each one budgets
Monarch builds a monthly cash flow budget: the income you expect, minus spending and savings. Its default, Flex budgeting, puts spending into three buckets, fixed, non-monthly and flex, so you watch one flexible number instead of every category. If you would rather budget each category, you can switch at any time. Your first budget is filled in from your last six months of spending.
Rocket Money budgets by category and sorts your transactions for you. The free plan gives you a monthly snapshot of spending, income and what's left over, with a limited number of category budgets. Premium removes the limit and adds transaction rules, splits and tags.
Bills, recurring charges and subscriptions
Monarch scans new transactions for anything that repeats and puts it on a recurring calendar or list: subscriptions, bills, transfers, even paychecks. You can also add one by hand. Each bill shows as paid, paid at a different amount, upcoming, or missed. Bill Sync, through a partner called Spinwheel using Equifax data, adds statement balances and due dates for US credit cards and loans. Utilities and subscriptions are not synced that way; Monarch finds them in your transactions, or you add them.
Rocket Money finds your bills and subscriptions in your linked accounts and shows what is coming on a calendar and a payday view, with bill reminders, on the free plan. On Premium, its team will cancel many subscriptions for you, which Rocket Money says usually takes 2 to 10 days. Its negotiators will also contact providers like phone, cable and internet companies to try to lower a bill.
If you want an app to do the cancelling and the haggling, that is Rocket Money. If you want to see every recurring charge and deal with it yourself, both do that well.
Sharing with a partner, and where each one runs
Monarch was built for households. You can invite one or more people into one subscription at no extra cost. Each gets their own login and sees the same dashboard and budget, and no one can hide an account from the others. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web.
Rocket Money shares on Premium: a second login for a partner, spouse or financial advisor. It runs on iPhone and Android. Since September 22, 2026, the Rocket Money website has been for Premium members only; free members use the phone app.
What changed in 2026
- Monarch added a Plus plan on April 20, 2026, at $199.99 a year, for forecasting, business income, investment analysis and estate planning.
- Rocket Money's Premium+ now includes Rowan, an AI assistant you text, which arrived in the app in September. Premium+ is $15 a month, and from November 2, 2026, it is the only tier with bill negotiation.
- Rocket Money's website became Premium only on September 22, 2026.
If you want neither, and just want the bills handled
Some people read a comparison like this and realize a budget was never what was keeping them up. It was the bill they forgot, or not knowing what's left until the next paycheck. You don't need a second hobby.
That is the job we built Forseera for. You add your bills and your paydays, by hand or through an optional, read-only Plaid link, and we give you a heads-up before each bill is due and show what's left. We never move money. It is $8.99 a month or $69.99 a year after a 7-day free trial, and you cancel in your Apple Account settings.
Here is what Forseera does not do. It has no budgets or spending categories, no net worth or investments, no subscription cancelling or bill negotiation, and no free plan. It is iPhone only, and it is one person per account. If you share money with a partner or use Android, Monarch or Rocket Money will suit you better.
