What it does that a blank sheet doesn't

  • Tells you what's overdue and what's due soon. Set how many days of heads-up you want. Overdue turns red, due soon turns amber, paid goes grey.
  • Keeps the annual ones in view. Car registration, insurance, the domain renewal: put them in with the date they hit and they stop sneaking up.
  • Shows what's safe to spend. The Paychecks tab lists your next eight paydays, the bills each one has to cover, and what's left after savings and bills. Weekly, every two weeks, twice a month, or monthly. If you run an anti-budget, this is the sheet for it.
  • Prints. The Print tab is the same list laid out for a fridge or a folder.
  • Nothing to sign up for. No email, no account, no bank. It is a file; it is yours.

How to use it

  1. Open the Start here tab and fill in the blue cells: next payday, how often you are paid, a typical paycheck, how many days of warning you want, and what you move to savings on payday, if anything.
  2. On the Bills tab, replace the sample rows with your own. Bill, amount, the next date it is due, how it repeats, and whether it is on autopay.
  3. When you pay one, set Paid to Yes. When it comes around again, move Next due forward and set Paid back to No.
  4. Check the Paychecks tab before you spend. If a check comes in short, change its amount there and what's left updates.

When the sheet stops working

The sheet does three things well and misses three. It will not remind you; the due date still has to live in your head. It will not know a check came in short until you tell it. And it lives on a laptop, while the moment of doubt happens in a checkout line. Most people keep a sheet like this for about two months.

Forseera is the same list, kept for you: it reminds you the morning each bill is due, redoes the paycheck math when anything changes, and shows what's left on your phone. $8.99 a month or $69.99 a year after a 7-day free trial. The sheet is free either way.

Questions people ask

Is the bill tracker template really free?

Yes. No email, no signup, no watermark. Download the .xlsx or open it in Google Sheets and keep it.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Use the Google Sheets link, or in Sheets choose File, Import, and pick the .xlsx. Every formula in it is one Sheets, Excel 2019 or later, and Numbers all understand.

What if I am paid irregularly?

Pick the closest cadence on the Start here tab, then overwrite any date or amount on the Paychecks tab by hand. The bills and what's-left figures follow whatever dates are there.

Does it show which paycheck pays each bill?

Yes. Each bill is matched to the most recent payday before its due date, and the Paychecks tab totals the bills under each check with what is left.

Can I import the sheet into Forseera?

Not directly. Adding your bills in the app takes about ten minutes once, and common services come from a built-in list.

Keep the sheet. Or let something remind you.
